Below is the project statement for The Routine, September 2016,

The Routine is part four-day diet and exercise regimen, part gallery-based durational performance. The artist examines her experience with eating disorder by re-enacting rituals of ‘disordered’ behaviours. The artist will have the gallery organized into stations and will inhabit the space with scheduled activities over four days. The gallery space will be open and anyone is welcome to visit during the scheduled or regular gallery hours. You are welcome to talk, ask or watch.

Part of the piece is about bringing what are typically intimate rituals, done in private spaces, into a public space like the gallery. The work comes from an interest in the potential of such controlled behaviours to be perceived as anything from ‘normal’ to medically pathological. The Routine was developed from a combination of several ritualistic behaviours she either once engaged in or read about in pro-anorexia/bulimia online communities. Time is scheduled each day for researching these disorders and their clinical treatment, while reflecting on any questions that may surface.

There will be a closing reception on Saturday, Sept 10, from 7 - 9 PM which will be open to the public, there will be refreshments.
